This book design project is a personal exploration of multiculturalism, identity, and emotion in multilingual contexts. Based on my language background in Mandarin Chinese, English and Korean, it investigates how shifting between these three languages triggers emotional responses and reshapes communicative modes.
Through the integration of Chinese characters, Latin scripts, and Korean Hangeul, Among Polyphonic examines what it means to navigate between worlds—“I’m neither black enough nor white enough” and “stuck between different worlds”. This sense of being in-between multilingual shapes the book’s inquiry to both define “who are you from”.

The book unfolds in three chapters, each reflecting a distinct aspect of my multilingual journey:
Phase 1: Emotional experimental graphics visualize my feelings when navigating multiple languages simultaneously, caught between the nuances of expression and belonging.
Phase 2: A typographic exploration of time, featuring daily photos taken in Toronto that document my engagement with multilingual reading.
Phase 3: A text-only chapter in three languages, offering a biographical record of my thoughts. This phase allows for experimentation with multilingual reading systems, encouraging deeper reflection on how diverse scripts coexist in a shared space.
이 책은 세 개의 장으로 나뉘며, 각 장은 다언어적 여정의 다양한 측면을 반영합니다:제1화: 감정적 실험 그래픽은 여러 언어를 동시에 사용하는 과정에서 느낀 감정을 시각화하며, 표현과 소속감의 뉘앙스 사이에 걸쳐 있는 경험을 담습니다.
제2화: 시간을 주제로 한 타이포그래피 탐구로, 토론토에서 촬영한 일상 사진을 포함합니다. 이러한 사진들은 다언어가 일상생활 속으로 점차 스며드는 과정을 탐구합니다.
제3화: 세 가지 언어로 구성된 텍스트만 있는 장으로, 개인적인 생각을 전기적으로 기록합니다. 이 단계는 다언어 읽기 시스템에 대한 실험을 가능하게 하며, 다양한 문자 체계가 공유 공간에서 어떻게 공존하는지에 대해 더 깊이 성찰하도록 유도합니다.
这本书分为三个章节，每一章都反映了multilingual旅程中的不同方面：第一阶段： 通过情感实验性图形，在多语言环境中穿梭时的情感可视化，表现出情绪表达和归属之间的细微差异。
第二阶段： 以时间为主题的排版探索，包括在多伦多拍摄的日常照片，这些照片探究多语言如何逐渐渗入日常生活。
第三阶段： 一个仅由三种语言文字组成的章节，提供了个人思想的传记性记录。这一阶段允许对多语言阅读系统进行实验，鼓励更深入地反思不同文字体系如何在共享空间中共存。
